In 1498, Emperor Maximilian I moved his court and his court music from Innsbruck to Vienna.  His explicit instruction was that among the musicians, there should also be six boys. He thus laid the foundations for the Vienna Court Music Orchestra, the Court Boys Choir, and hence the Vienna Boys Choir.
